The Yellow Advertiser has again been nominated in this year’s Regional Press Awards for its investigation into the alleged cover up of the Shoebury paedophile ring of the 1980s.
The paper is up for the Campaign of the Year Award again while, Charles Thomson is nominated again as Weekly Reporter of the Year.
Charles is the present holder of that title.
The YA’s ‘Shoebury Sex Ring’ campaign has already won several national awards. Charles was declared a Local Hero at the British Journalism Awards, named by the Society of Editors as the UK’s best weekly newspaper journalist, and handed ITV and Channel 4’s Ray Fitzwalter Award for Investigative Journalism.
The investigation is now being turned into a podcast documentary series.
This year’s winners will be announced on June 19.
Just a few days ago Charles was also nominated for the Private Eye Paul Foot Award for investigative journalism in regard to the YA’s investigation.
