Brian Rigby – Leyton Orient
This week, Leyton Orient enthusiast, Brian Rigby is featured as our #YellowSport Fan of the Week
How long have you supported Leyton Orient?
I have supported them for some 59 years and the first game that I can remember was on the Friday 9th February 1961 against Preston North End and needless to so the O’s lost 2-0. I have supported them ever since. I think I did go to a match in the previous October/November but cannot remember who the match was with.
Where in the ground do you sit?
I now have a season ticket in the North stand with my son and grandson but have either stood or sat on all four sides of Brisbane Road.
Favourite all-time player?
In 59 years I have seen many great players including Dave Dunmore, Laurie Cunningham, Alan Comfort, Dean Cox but perhaps the stand out player for me was Mickey Bullock. He was a traditional centre forward who could hold up play, pass a ball had a great shot in him could head a ball and scored a lot of goals yes for me a stand out player.
Favourite current player?
My current favourite player Jobi McAnuff. He was badly treated when he first came to the club by the then chairman but he came back to show us just what we had missed. He is a superb captain and leader on the pitch, his skills are unbelievable, he is liked by the fans and he is my grandson favourite as well.
Most memorable match?
Over the years I have many memorable matches in the old 1st division beating Manchester Utd 1-0, Drawing with Arsenal in the FA Cup the other year but I am sorry I cannot choose between these away matches beating Oxford United away to get promotion to League One in 2006 or the FA Cup win over Fulham. The way we won both was outstanding, and for both matches, the support was fantastic with over 5,000 fans at both games.
If I could sign one player for my team it would be?
If I could sign one player I think it would have to be Harry Kane again. He signed for us on loan as a teenager, He made his football league debut for us, scored his first league goal with us, he got sent off for the first time with us and I like to think we taught him how to play football and it would be good to get him back home.
