Lewis Searle-Cook – Great Wakering Rovers

This week, 19-year-old Great Wakering Rovers supporter, Lewis Searle-Cook is featured as our #YellowSport Fan of the Week

How long have you supported Great Wakering Rovers?

I have supported Great Wakering Rovers for more than ten years.

My first memories of going to Burroughs Park was with my dad – He always took me over there. I started to engage with the team and became a superfan.

Nowadays, some of my friends also attend matches. I follow the green and whites at home and away as much as I can. It has been a great experience.

Where in the ground do you sit?

Everybody at the club knows where I stand because they can hear me playing the drum and see my flag. I situate myself behind whichever goal the Rovers are attacking.

Favourite all-time player?

My favourite all-time player is Scott Pethers.

Scott was a great player and captain, always giving one hundred per cent.

He’s a brilliant character off the pitch, talking to me about his football career and where he would like to be in the future. This inspired me to be like him, showing hard work and dedication in whatever I do.

Favourite current player?

I have a few favourite players at the club such as Bobby Mason, Billy Johnson and George Cox. These are my favourites because they show dedication and passion every time they step out on the pitch.

Most memorable match?

My most memorable match was in 2018 when the Rovers beat West Essex 5-0 to become Essex Senior League champions.

The atmosphere in the ground was electric, especially when Neil Richmond scored the first goal. We started to realise it could be won that day and that’s what happened with another result going our way as Basildon United and Sporting Bengal United drew 0-0.

If I could sign one player for my team it would be?

If I could sign one player for this team it would be Adam Vyse.

Adam has played for the Rovers before but left to join our rivals, Canvey Island. He has since moved to Basildon United, but I would like to see him back at Burroughs Park where he displayed so much ability and passion in a green and white shirt.
