Tom Leggett – Colchester United
This week, 39-year-old Tom Leggett from Eight Ash Green is featured as our #YellowSport Fan of the Week
How long have you supported Colchester United?
I’ve followed the U’s for 31 years. I was 8 when I saw my first game.
Whereabouts in the ground do you sit?
I always sit in section S1 of the South Stand. It’s where the best atmosphere in the ground can be found. I know many of the people who congregate there. There’s always someone to talk to.
Favourite all-time player?
It has to be Steve McGavin. He was a Gazza-style tricky winger and his skill used to amaze me, I’m still hoping that I meet him one day.
Favourite current player?
That award for me has to go to Harry Pell. As soon as he arrived he was an instant fan favourite. He plays with his heart on his sleeve and gives it 100% – He even pops up with the odd goal now and then.
Most memorable match?
A tricky one but it would have to be the last game of the season 2014/15 season when then U’s had to beat high flying Preston North End to stay up. When Moncur slotted away the winning goal it was absolute pandemonium in the stands. I’ll never forget that feeling.
If I could sign one player for my team it would be?
I’m a huge fan of Allan Saint-Maximin of Newcastle United. I can only imagine what he’d do to some of the League Two defenders.
