Yellow Sport Non-League Round-Up

With so many matches postponed up and down the country due to sub arctic conditions and frozen pitches, only three local non-league sides were in action over the weekend. Here is a results round-up from those games that did survive the weather.

FA Trophy – Third-Round Proper

Heybridge Swifts were knocked out of the FA Trophy by Hungerford Town 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Scraley Road. Swifts, who were victorious over Step Two Hereford in the last round, took the lead through Jack Wall just after the half-hour mark only for Jack Evans to equalise in the sixty-third minute to take the match through to be decided by spot kicks.

When Lee Noble missed Swift’s third penalty, it was left to Louis McGrory to fire home the next kick to take Hungerford through

Isthmian League Premier Division

Horsham defeated Canvey Island 2-0 with goals from Charlie Hester-Cook and Jack Mazzone on target for the Hornets, who also saw Tom Kavanagh miss from the spot.

Canvey themselves were also awarded a penalty when Alex Malins brought down Jack Paxman in the box, only for Connor Hubble to blaze high over the bar.

Cray Wanderers played out a seven-goal thriller with Billericay Town as the 4-3 win took the Wands up into fourth place, following a run of form that has seen them suffer just one defeat in the last thirteen games.

Bradley Stevenson (2) and Marvel Ekipitia were on target for Town, whilst Anthony Cook, Dan Bassett, Tom Derry and Sam Skeffington (who scored the winner in the ninth minute of injury time) netted for Cray.
