Brilliant Bowers see off Shots in cup cracker

Emirates FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round
Bowers & Pitsea made history by reaching the first round proper stage of the Emirates FA Cup for the first time in their history following an incredible 2-1 triumph over Vanaram National League side, Aldershot Town at the Len Salmon Stadium.

Lewis Manor set the ball rolling, firing Bowers ahead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time. However, Aldershot – now managed by former Southend United boss, Mark Molesley – looked like they’d earned a replay when Corie Andrews levelled the score midway through the second period.

But with team minutes remaining, Quentin Monville struck to hand Bowers arguably the biggest victory in their history and confirming a place in Sunday’s draw.

Ten-man Dagenham & Redbridge will be joining Bowers after Angelo Balanta’s late brace turned their tie at Wealdstone on its head.

The Daggers lost Paul McCallum to a second-minute red card, then fell behind to Jay Bird’s early goal, before Balanta’s late heroics.

Troubled Southend United are also through. Nathan Ferguson, Rhys Murphy, Nathan Ralph and Louis Walsh handing the Shrimpers a 4-1 triumph over Chertsey Town at Roots Hall Stadium.

Casey Maclaren gave the Pitching In Isthmian League South Central side a shock early lead before the Blues hit back.

Chelmsford City’s cup hope concluded at Harrow Borough. Charlie Sheringham and Cameron James netted for the Clarets, but the home side ran out 4-2 winners – James Ewington grabbing a hat-trick.

Vanarama National League South
Billericay Town’s upturn in fortunes continued as Slough Town were beaten by the odd goal in three at New Lodge.

Grant gave Slough an early lead. However, KwekiLucan and a Frankie Sutherland spot-kick ensured back-to-back victories for Jody Brown’s men, moving them up to eighteenth in the table.

Slipping below Billericaty are Braintree Town who went down by a goal to nil at Peter Taylor’s Welling United.

Pitching In Isthmian League Premier Division
It proved to be a difficult afternoon for the regions’ teams, with Haringey Borough and East Thurrock United on the wrong end of big defeats.

Borough went down 5-0 at Merstham – all the goals coming in the opening period. Meanwhile, Kenny Aileru briefly had the Rocks on terms at Carshalton Athletic, but it was the hosts who ran away with a 4-1 success.

Brightlingsea Regent also found themselves on the wrong end – Eren Kinali netted in the final stages for the North Essex side – Visitors, Wingate & Finchley taking the points with a 3-1 success. Ibrahim Meite, Sam Hatton and Bilal Sayoud were on target for the North Londoners. Regent’ goalkeeper, Charlie Turner was sent-off seven minutes from time.

Pitching In Isthmian League North
Canvey Island maintained their place at the top of the table thanks to an impressive 3-1 victory over Aveley at Park Lane.

Manny Ogunrinde gave the Millers an early lead. However, goals from Harrison Chatting, Conor Hubble and Matthew Price saw the Gulls home in front of a bumper 455 crowd.

Brentwood Town followed up their midweek win at Great Wakering Rovers with a 2-0 triumph on the road at Coggeshall Town – Jack Dickinson and a Tom Richardson penalty proving decisive.

Shermandin Artmeladze and Christian Adu Gyamfi netted either side of half-time as Romford saw off Stowmarket Town at Mayesbrook Park. Meanwhile, Great Wakering Rovers won the battle of the bottom two – Ashley Nzala’s early header enough to edge out Hullbridge Sports at Burroughs Park.

Joe Wright’s second-half goal couldn’t prevent Tilbury from slipping to a 2-1 defeat at Felixtowe & Walton United. Suaibo Balde also scored for the losing side as Witham Town slipped 3-1 at Dereham Town.

Maldon & Tiptree went down by two goals to nil at home to Bury Town. the game between Basildon United and Barking finished goalless.

Essex Senior League
Stanway Rovers top the table following their 2-1 Friday night victory at Woodford Town, they move three points clear of Redbridge, who slipped by the same margin against Ilford.

Walthamstow remains very much amongst the chasing pack thanks to a 2-1 triumph at Stansted. Meanwhile, the top scorers of the day were Saffron Walden Town who thrashed Sporting Bengal United by seven goals to nil at the Mile End Stadium.

White Ensign won 2-0 at Clapton, while Sawbridgeworth Town eased to a 3-0 victory over Southend Manor. Takeley took the points following an entertaining 4-2 win at West Essex. Hoddesdon Town and Little Oakley shared four goals. Elsewhere. Cockfosters and Enfield played out a 1-1 draw.

Premier Division
Liam Oliver and Harry Talbot both netted a brace as Rayleigh Town won 4-0 at Springfield. Bishop’s Stortford Swifts also claimed maximum points, beating Harold Wood Athletic by three goals to one.
