It’s now five Cook Division matches without defeat for in-form Old Southendian & Southchurch who comfortably overcame old adversaries, Leigh On Sea at Garon Park.
Unquestionably, the focus was on superb batting performances from Ahsan Yousaf and Ahmed Khawaja who helped the hosts amass 272/2 from their 40 overs.
Yousaf finished unbeaten on 105 and Khawaja 119* on a tough day for the Leigh attack. Indeed, only James Spencer and Matthew Curtis had any luck with the ball, claiming the dismissals of Josh Perry and Kyle Smith.
The chase was always going to be a tall order for the visitors. Nevertheless, skipper Jon Edwards carried the fight with a superb 85 before becoming one of four of James Bunce’s victims.
Bunce finished with impressive figures of 4/41 as the Old Boys continued their pursuit of leaders, Hadleigh & Thundersley, who currently set the pace at the top of the table.
